Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has voiced his frustration with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of manipulating his work without his consent.
The artist, who collaborated with the party in 2008, claims they used his vocals and intellectual property to falsely imply his endorsement of their 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Accra-based OKAY FM, Kwabena Kwabena expressed his disappointment, describing the party’s actions as unprofessional and damaging to his reputation.
“They picked something I did for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2008, went to the studio, doctored it, and made it seem like I had done it in 2024 to endorse Dr. Bawumia.
When they were done, they didn’t tell me anything, and so people still think I’m NPP because of what they do,” he lamented.
He stressed the importance of respecting artists’ work and obtaining proper consent before using their material.
