Super Falcons seal WAFCON 2026 spot after beating Benin
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have sealed their qualification for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The team booked their ticket after an impressive showing over two legs against the Benin Republic.

The ten-time African champions maintained their dominance in the qualifiers, proving once again why they remain the most successful women’s team on the continent.
With the result, the Falcons have now confirmed their place at next year’s tournament, extending their perfect record of qualifying for every edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations since the competition began.
Two-leg triumph over Benin
The Nigerian side began their qualification campaign in style, earning a 2–0 away win in Cotonou. The first-leg victory gave them a comfortable advantage heading into the return fixture.
In the second leg held in Abeokuta on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, the Falcons fought to a 1–1 draw, ensuring a 3–1 aggregate victory over the two legs.
Despite the draw, their overall performance was dominant, combining strong defence with attacking flair.
Benin showed determination throughout the tie but struggled to cope with the Falcons’ pace, experience, and tactical strength.
Nigeria’s consistency across both legs reflected their readiness to defend their continental crown in Morocco.
A legacy of excellence
This qualification marks the Super Falcons’ 16th consecutive appearance at the WAFCON, an achievement unmatched by any other African nation.
Their remarkable record underscores years of hard work, talent development, and resilience.
With Morocco as the host nation, Nigeria becomes the first team to officially qualify alongside the hosts.
The victory not only cements their status as Africa’s powerhouse in women’s football but also sets the tone for another title challenge in 2026.
As the countdown to the tournament begins, fans across the country are hopeful that the Falcons will once again soar high and bring the trophy home.
