Meet Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the catastrophic Air India Boeing 787 crash

The Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad, India, to London Gatwick, United Kingdom, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, has been identified as the sole survivor of a catastrophic Air India Boeing 787 crash, according to India Today.

The crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff, claimed the lives of all 241 passengers including the crew on board.

Ramesh, who was seated in 11A toward the front of the aircraft, recounted the harrowing moments to the Hindustan Times.

“Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise, and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” he said.

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital,” Ramesh added.

Ramesh, who was visiting family in India, is now receiving medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the crash, but investigations are underway.
