Mali has been hit by two significant militant attacks this week which has escalated the ongoing jihadist violence surrounding the country.
It was reported that On June 1, 2025, an al-Qaeda-linked group identified as Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM) attacked a military base in Boulkessi.
The attack happened near Burkina Faso’s boarder with Malu killing at least 30 soldiers, with some sources reporting up to 60 deaths, including missing soldiers and hostages.
The Malian army reported a tactical withdrawal after a vigorous defense, while JNIM claimed significant casualties and control of the base.
The second attack happened on On June 2, 2025, when JNIM launched an assault on a military camp in Timbuktu, involving heavy gunfire, shelling, and a vehicle-borne explosive.

The army reported neutralizing 13 militants and arresting 31 suspects, with ongoing search operations.
Mali have been fighting so hard to protect it’s sovereignty for years now and the West African giants are expected to continue the battle.
