Katsina abductees released after villagers captured families of bandits who demanded ₦100m ransom.
Villagers in Sabon Layi Babban Mutu, Katsina State, reportedly retaliated against a group of bandits after 30 residents were kidnapped and a ransom of ₦100 million per person was demanded.
Villagers respond with counter-abduction
The incident involved the abductors holding the villagers for several days while pressing the community for payment.
According to eyewitness accounts shared online, residents responded by abducting the relatives of the bandits.
The villagers allegedly informed the bandits that the detained family members would be harmed if the captives were not released.
This standoff created a tense atmosphere in the community as both sides waited for a resolution.
The bandits eventually released all the kidnapped villagers without collecting any ransom.
Some reports also claimed that each freed resident received ₦30,000 for transportation back home.
