Ibrahim Traore announces plans to build 5 courts and 2 prisons exclusively for corruption cases

Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré is aggressively moving the country towards a better and improved future.

Traore has announced plans to construct five specialized courts and two dedicated prisons to address corruption cases exclusively.

According to the president, his government “will eliminate” corruption, which has been a “cancer” in the country’s growth, and all those involved will be dealt with.

“Corruption is the first cancer that my government will eliminate, and it will soon be history. To those who still think of embezzling our resources meant for the whole of Burkina Faso, the nation will be watching us from prison,” he stated.

The military leader, who rose to power following a coup in September 2022, has positioned himself as a determined pan-Africanist.

Traoré’s latest initiative aligns with his broader campaign to root out corruption, a persistent issue in Burkina Faso, which scored 41 on the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, ranking 82 out of 180 countries, according to Transparency International.
