Husband dies over paternity fraud
NIGERIA – The late Tunde Thomas, popularly known as Tunde Gentle, has become the subject of renewed public discussion following revelations surrounding his marriage, the paternity of his children, and the emotional turmoil that reportedly preceded his death.
Tunde Thomas, a former employee of the now-defunct Oceanic Bank, died at the age of 45, with reports indicating that his health deteriorated significantly after a devastating disclosure by his wife, Moyo Thomas (née Ojo).
According to accounts circulating online, Moyo revealed to Tunde that the two children he believed were his biological offspring were fathered by Adam Nuru, her former boss at First City Monument Bank (FCMB), who was a senior executive at the bank at the time.
Reports claim that the alleged office relationship between Moyo and her supervisor was widely known within FCMB. However, no official confirmation has been made by the bank or the individuals involved.
Throughout their marriage, Tunde was described as a devoted husband and father who spared no expense in caring for his family.
He financed luxury vacations to destinations such as London and Dubai and enrolled the children in prestigious schools.
When their first child was about eight years old, Moyo resigned from FCMB and travelled to the United States with the children, initially claiming the trip was a short holiday.
However, when the new academic year began in Nigeria and the children did not return, Tunde began to question their whereabouts.
It was during this period that Moyo is said to have informed him that he was not the children’s biological father, a revelation that reportedly left him emotionally shattered.
Further reports suggest that Moyo filed for asylum in the United States, alleging domestic abuse. A claim that shocked many who knew Tunde as a calm, gentle, and easygoing man.
It has been alleged that the asylum move was intended to secure residency status and prevent further contact between her and Tunde. These allegations, however, were never publicly tested in court in Nigeria.
In 2017, following the revelation, Tunde reportedly suffered a stroke. Though he survived, those close to him said he never fully recovered emotionally, often breaking down in tears and struggling to regain his former self.
In an attempt to rebuild his life, Tunde later entered a new relationship with a lawyer and had plans to visit her parents with friends on December 26, 2020. Tragically, those plans never materialised.
On the night of December 15, 2020, Tunde reportedly returned home from work, collapsed on the staircase of his residence, and died instantly.
An autopsy later listed the cause of death as heart failure. Tunde Thomas was laid to rest on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
His story has since sparked widespread debate on social media about emotional trauma, infidelity, paternity fraud, and the often-unseen mental health struggles men face.
