Hilda Baci calls for Justice, pledges ₦2 million to honour late 13-year-old Ochanya
Chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has announced a ₦2 million donation to organisations supporting survivors of s3xual abuse and pursuing justice for 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje, who died in 2018 after years of alleged assault by her guardians.
Baci said Ochanya’s story deeply moved her, describing the teenager as a child who “should have been safe, loved, and protected” but was betrayed by those responsible for her care.
Honouring Ochanya Beyond Hashtags
The celebrity chef stressed that honouring Ochanya’s memory requires more than online activism, calling for funding, accountability, and community-driven efforts to protect vulnerable girls.
“As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers and are still here today, trying to find their way back to wholeness,” she wrote on Instagram.
Baci revealed that the ₦2 million pledge will be shared between two credible NGOs working with rape and sexual abuse survivors, which she plans to select with public input.
Public Invited to Nominate NGOs
“To support that cause, I’m pledging ₦2,000,000 to organisations working with rape and sexual abuse survivors,” she said, inviting followers to nominate trusted NGOs in the comments section for her team’s review.
She also encouraged donations to an ongoing GoFundMe campaign supporting Ochanya’s legal case, urging those unable to give financially to help spread awareness instead.
“Every contribution helps move the legal process forward and strengthens the fight for justice. And if you can’t give financially, that’s okay—you can still lend your voice,” she added.
Collective Stand for Justice
Baci described her action as a collective stand for justice and compassion, stating that fighting for Ochanya’s justice would empower others facing similar trauma.
“Honouring her memory means doing more than posting hashtags. It means showing up for those who are still here—making sure no one ever feels alone in their pain again,” she said.
Her move has drawn wide praise online, with many commending her transparency and genuine commitment to the #JusticeForOchanya campaign.
