GFA explains why Issahaku was left off the Black Stars radar and verifies Kwasi Sibo’s presence.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has indicated that Kwasi Sibo, a midfielder, is still very much in the Black Stars technical team’s plans and would probably be called up soon.

The coaching staff, under the direction of Otto Addo, has been keeping a close eye on Sibo’s development and is happy with his recent performances and work ethic,

Asante Twum said in a Facebook post on Tuesday night after announcing the Black Stars squad for their World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against Chad and Mali next month.

He said, “Kwasi Sibo will soon have his opportunity.” The technical staff has been keeping an eye on him and finds his work rate impressive.

Despite their decision to stick with the core group in light of recent results against Madagascar and Chad, Sibo is on their radar and will probably receive a chance soon.

A notable absence from Ghana’s recent World Cup qualifying matches, Sibo has been playing well for his club, Real Oviedo.

He will not be available when the national side plays Chad and Mali on September 4 and 8.

Asante Twum also gave an update on Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, a winger who has been sidelined for a long time due to injuries, including an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Although the forward for Leicester City is back in action, the Black Stars’ technical staff is taking a careful approach to his reintegration.

“It is a pleasure to see Otto Addo back in action,” Asante Twum commented.

However, they are hesitant to hasten his return considering the circumstances surrounding his protracted layoff.

After careful consideration of the player, the Ghanaian and Leicester City medical staff have agreed to grant him some time.

Ghana’s upcoming international match’s playing surface is one particular issue affecting the choice.

The AstroTurf field in N’jamena, Chad, where the game is being played, would not be the best setting for a player recuperating from a catastrophic knee injury.

This cautious approach is partly due to the possibility that Issahaku’s return from his recent ACL injury may not be feasible on the AstroTurf field in N’jamena,” Asante Twum continued.

Both players might have a big impact as Ghana attempts to capitalise on its recent momentum as it continues its World Cup qualifying campaign in the upcoming months.
