Former SWAG President Ackah Anthony passes away

Mr. Ackah Anthony, a former President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has passed away, according to a report by Joy Sports.

He died in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Mr. Anthony served as the head of SWAG from 2007 to 2015, leaving a legacy of strong leadership and impactful advocacy within Ghana’s sporting landscape.

A veteran journalist, he also held the role of Assistant Editor at Graphic Sports under the Graphic Communications Group Limited.

He was widely known for his popular column, Candid Corner, featured on the back page of The Mirror. The column, which addressed key issues in Ghana’s sporting sector, was respected for its bold and truthful commentary.

As the sixth president of SWAG, Mr. Anthony championed several reforms, including organizing successful editions of the prestigious SWAG Awards and overseeing the redesign and refurbishment of the SWAG Club House in Dansoman, Accra. He also led a national membership drive to grow and strengthen the association.

Mr. Anthony is survived by his wife, Evelyn — a former Director at the Ministry of Information — and their four children.
