“Curses don’t work, if they do, all the curses piled on you” – Reno Omokri blasts Peter Obi
Reno Omokri, a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu, has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent remark on the nation’s worsening insecurity.
Obi had posted a message on X titled “Is Nigeria cursed or are we the curse?”, where he expressed concern about the alarming rate of kidnappings across the country, including the abduction of schoolchildren.
Omokri Questions Obi’s View on Nigeria
Reacting to Obi’s comment, Omokri rejected the idea that Nigeria might be cursed.
He questioned why a former presidential candidate would describe the country in such a negative way.
“Nigeria Is Not Cursed,” Omokri Insists
In his lengthy reply on X, Omokri wrote: “Nigeria Is Not Cursed, As Peter Obi Claims! Dear Peter Obi, Nigeria is not cursed. How can you even say that? So you want to govern a cursed nation? This is 2025. Emancipate your mind from superstition.”
He argued that curses do not determine national events and suggested that if curses worked, Obi would have suffered from the anger of Anambra residents who accused him of poor performance during his tenure as governor.
Hw wrote: “Curses do not work. If they do, all the curses piled on you by the people of Anambra for the eight years that you misgoverned them.”
Omokri also repeated old allegations claiming Obi focused on breweries and private financial interests while failing to build public schools.
Omokri Links Insecurity to Support for Nnamdi Kanu
The former presidential aide said Nigeria’s troubled week was not caused by curses but by those he described as “terrorists’ enablers”.
He accused Obi of allegedly defending Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), whose trial and recent conviction have generated heated reactions.
Omokri claimed that insecurity thrives when public figures offer support to groups accused of violent actions.
Revisiting Past Attacks
Omokri recalled that Obi once condemned the killing of soldiers in Abia State but also stated on several occasions that “IPOB are not terrorists”.
He questioned Obi’s consistency, asking whether he still condemns the attack on soldiers or still supports Nnamdi Kanu’s cause.
“Look in the Mirror,” Omokri Tells Obi
Concluding his message, Omokri said the country’s recent security issues are a result of “double standards” by leaders who he believes enable violent groups.
He added that if Obi wished to understand the roots of Nigeria’s insecurity, he should “buy a mirror”.
