Benin has taken a significant step towards localizing it’s textile industry with new policies.
Reports states that the West African country has stopped exporting raw cotton to the Europeans.

This new development and action taken by government of Benin is in a bid improve the efficiency of its textile industry.
The intention is to process cotton domestically, generating employment opportunities, stimulating job creation.
It will also be a tool for augmenting its gross domestic product, ultimately contributing to the growth of the continent growth.
Benin is known as the largest producer of cotton in the African continent and also ranked 10th in the world production list.
However, the country haven’t witnessed much development with income from their textile sector.
And this according to multiple sources is because they do not gain much from the cotton production due to the little percentage they get from foreign producers.
