Ancelotti reveals what he told Vinicius after El Clasico outburst at Alonso
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has criticised Vinicius Jr for his angry reaction after being substituted by Xabi Alonso during Real Madrid’s 2-1 El Clasico win over Barcelon, describing the forward’s conduct as “a mistake.”
Ancelotti revealed that he has since spoken directly with the 23-year-old, insisting the matter is now resolved as both prepare for Brazil’s November international friendlies.
Vinicius’ outburst and apology
Real Madrid may have claimed victory in the October 26 clash, but post-match attention quickly shifted to Vinicius’ frustration after being substituted in the 72nd minute.

The winger, replaced by Arda Guler, went straight down the tunnel instead of joining teammates on the bench, causing immediate controversy.
Hours later, Vinicius issued a public apology on social media, admitting his emotions got the better of him. Reports confirmed that he also met Alonso privately to apologise, effectively calming tensions inside the Madrid camp.
Despite the brief episode, Real Madrid officials downplayed the situation, insisting there was no rift between the player and the manager.
Ancelotti’s perspective
Speaking while unveiling Brazil’s squad for their upcoming friendlies, Ancelotti addressed the incident directly.
“We have a very good relationship with Vinicius. When something happens, we talk about it,” he said. “I told him what I thought, that he made a mistake. He apologised, and it’s a resolved matter. He’s a very important player.”
The former Real Madrid boss clarified that his role remains purely professional: “He doesn’t have a problem here or in his club, or with his coach [Alonso]. As for his personal life, it’s his, I’m not his father nor his brother, I’m just his coach.”
Focus shifts back to football
Ancelotti’s remarks carry weight given his history with Vinicius, whom he helped develop into one of Europe’s top forwards. Despite his fiery temperament occasionally leading to controversy, Vinicius remains vital to both Real Madrid and Brazil’s plans.
The forward has been included in Ancelotti’s squad for Brazil’s November friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia, fixtures that offer him a chance to refocus after a turbulent week.
At club level, the issue appears closed. Alonso has accepted the player’s apology, and Vinicius has already returned to Madrid’s starting lineup, featuring against Valencia and set to do so again against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday.
