Traditional rulers in Ondo State have applauded Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for presenting them with brand-new Toyota SUVs, a gesture they described as timely and deserving.
The presentation ceremony, held in Akure, gathered royal fathers from across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, said the vehicles symbolised the governor’s respect and commitment to the traditional institution.
He praised Aiyedatiwa for always honouring his word, adding that the royal fathers would remain loyal partners in ensuring peace and progress.
The monarchs noted that Aiyedatiwa’s administration had continued to strengthen ties with traditional rulers, describing the SUVs as another example of his government’s inclusive approach to leadership.
Aiyedatiwa restates commitment to welfare and heritage
Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that the decision to distribute the vehicles stemmed from his government’s belief that traditional leaders play an indispensable role in governance and community development.
He said his administration would continue to treat their welfare as a priority.
According to the governor, Grade ‘A’ Obas received Toyota Fortuner 2025 models, while Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas would soon take delivery of Toyota Cross 2025 models.
He said the gesture was more than a welfare package. It was a mark of honour and recognition for their service to the people.
Aiyedatiwa recalled that within the first year of his tenure, the state government had completed the long-abandoned secretariat for the Council of Obas and had ensured the regular release of the statutory five per cent allocation to traditional institutions from the local government funds.
Government officials highlight significance of initiative
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, described the vehicle presentation as evidence of the administration’s gratitude for the monarchs’ support in maintaining peace and order.
He said traditional rulers had consistently partnered with the government in promoting unity and development.
Takuro urged the recipients to put the vehicles to good use in serving their communities, assuring them that the administration remained committed to sustaining the partnership.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his closing remarks, reaffirmed his appreciation to the traditional rulers for their continued cooperation, saying their contribution to grassroots governance and cultural preservation could never be overlooked.
