A devastating explosion at Odumasi, Konongo, in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region has left one person dead and several others injured.

Among the injured are at least two firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who had arrived at the scene before the explosion.

The firefighters were reportedly caught in the blast while attempting to contain the fire, hence they have since sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was triggered by mining explosives kept inside a shop.
