Kumawood star and musician Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has criticized the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), accusing them of favoritism and neglecting hardworking artists like himself.
According to LilWin, contrary to the saying “who the cap fits must wear it,” the TGMA board prioritizes awarding individuals they are familiar with rather than those who truly deserve recognition for their efforts.
Despite his numerous hit songs and electrifying stage performances, LilWin has been consistently overlooked for nominations, a situation he finds disappointing.
He believes the awards lack seriousness because they fail to reward artists meaningfully. “If the metal came with money , I would take the snub seriously,” he remarked, adding that receiving an award without financial benefits is pointless.
The TGMA, organized by Charterhouse Ghana and sponsored by Telecel Ghana, is in its 25th year.
However, LilWin feels the awards scheme does little to acknowledge hardworking musicians like himself, instead favoring a select few.
Despite the lack of recognition, LilWin remains unfazed. For him, financial success and entertaining his fans matter more than awards.
“As long as I earn money without TGMA, I am satisfied,” he confidently stated. He further emphasized his unmatched stage presence, declaring, “Ghana has only five musicians who can rock a stage, and I am one of them.”
