Tinubu orders AGF to withdraw court cases against Senator Natasha
Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to withdraw all cases filed against her.
She made the revelation in a live Facebook broadcast on Tuesday morning after Immigration officers allegedly stopped her from travelling abroad and seized her international passport.
According to her, the action followed an instruction from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Natasha Says Tinubu Has Cleared Her Name
The lawmaker said President Tinubu had already intervened in her matter and saw no reason for her passport to be withheld.
“There was no order. Yes, I know I have two Federal Government cases against me, of which the President of Nigeria instructed the Attorney-General of the Federation to cancel, to withdraw the cases,” she stated.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu actually spoke to Godswill Akpabio to terminate all the cases against me because he admitted, he agreed that they were politically witch-hunting me with cases. So there is no reason why my passport should be withheld at the international airport. You have no right to that, madam.”
Visibly angry, Senator Natasha showed the immigration officers in her live video, claiming they had held her passport for over 20 minutes.
“Is Godswill Akpabio so important? Why is he overruling boundaries?” she questioned. “Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has instructed the Comptroller-General of Customs to deny me exit, to withhold my passport. This is wrong.”
Federal Government’s Fresh Charges
The senator recalled that this was not the first time her travel had been restricted.
The Federal Government had earlier filed fresh charges against her at the Federal High Court in Abuja, intensifying its legal battle.
The new charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/195/25, was filed on 22 May 2025, a few weeks after another charge, CR/297/25, was instituted at the FCT High Court.
Both cases were linked to allegations that Akpoti-Uduaghan made statements capable of damaging the reputations of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
