Eric Ayiah, the former captain of Ghana U17, is on a season-long loan with Varzim.

Before the transfer window closed, the 25-year-old striker, who previously captained Ghana’s U17 national team, made the move in an attempt to get more consistent playing time in the upcoming campaign.

Ayiah’s capture was formally revealed by Varzim on their Facebook site, which said, “Eric Ayiah is loaned out from FC Felgueiras until 2026.”

Last season, Ayiah had a strong season with Felgueiras, making 29 appearances in all competitions and tallying five goals and three assists.

The club’s supporters praised his work ethic and attacking versatility, but due to fiercer competition for spots in the squad, a transfer to Varzim was agreed upon to aid in his further development.

After stints with a number of lower-tier clubs, Ayiah, who was once a highly-touted prospect at AS Monaco’s academy, has progressively carved out a career in Portuguese football.

He is currently awaiting his first call-up to the senior national team, despite his outstanding performances for Ghana at the youth level, when he earned ten caps with the Black Starlets.

As Varzim looks to go up from Liga 3, Ayiah’s presence is anticipated to strengthen their front line.

The Ghanaian attacker is keen to get back to his best during his loan stint.
