Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer surprised by reception from Hamburger SV after botched OGC Nice move
Ghana forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer has disclosed that he was warmly received by Hamburger SV following his failed move to French club OGC Nice.
The 23-year-old was close to joining Nice in the summer transfer window before the deal fell through due to medical reasons.
Although he wanted to leave after putting in a request following the offer from the club, Konigsdorffer maintained a good relationship with Hamburger, allowing him to swiftly return after the disappointment.
“I was welcomed back by my teammates and had to run through the famous tunnel, seeing as I’m technically a newcomer. (grins) Everyone is pleased that I’m back and everything is the same as it was before. I haven’t thought too much about how I’ll fit in here, as I feel good about being at HSV and in Hamburg, plus I know everyone here,” he said in an interview with HSV.
“I didn’t expect much from the boys. (laughs) I went to the stadium as normal, walked into the changing-room and sat down in my seat. Some of the boys gave me a hug, some said they were sorry that it didn’t happen, most just said it was good to see me back.
“Of course there was the odd comment, for example that the weather we have in Mallorca right now I could have had all the time in Nice. (laughs) I had no concerns coming back. I was always in conversation with Stefan Kuntz, Claus Costa, and Merlin Polzin. We still spoke openly even when the offer came in.”
